Benefits

Niteworks has adopted a benefits-led approach to the Warfighting Experimentation process. The objective is to ensure that each experimentation Theme is selected and designed against a set of expected benefits that are negotiated in advance with the stakeholder community, that Niteworks delivers these benefits to the stakeholder and that the stakeholder exploits these benefits in order to support the desired capability goal. The benefits process relies on close co-operation between the benefits team, the Theme teams and the stakeholder community.
Benefits Realisation
To ensure MOD is able to fully exploit valuable Niteworks outputs there is a rigorous process for monitoring exploitation – led by MOD but executed by the industry partnership. During the experimentation planning process an MOD sponsor, at the 1* Star level, is engaged for each specific output. This sponsor remains engaged throughout the experimental activity and at its conclusion, in a formal exploitation workshop, accepts responsibility for exploiting the output to create a benefit to a MOD programme. Niteworks monitors exploitation after the conclusion of the experiment and offers continued support until the benefit is realised.
Delivering Real Demonstrable Benefits to MOD
In the 3-year Assessment Phase Niteworks produced over 170 interventions for 33 different MOD organisations. Niteworks interventions have delivered value across all the Defence Lines of Development, with a particular focus on the Equipment line. Niteworks Themes have also addressed Urgent Operational Requirements for current operations, enhancing front line effectiveness through improved processes, organisations, doctrine and interoperability.
Niteworks experimental outputs have produced benefits for both the MOD customer and industry in the following areas:
- providing evidence to aid decision-making
- sharing information with, and developing common understandings with industry Partners and between Defence stakeholders
- contributing to the development of doctrine, improved situational awareness and operational effectiveness
- improved working practices in HQs
- economies of scale in research and concept and assessment work.
